CATCAFE LOUNGE - KITTEN LOUNGE
Each year, kitten season brings tens of thousands of kittens into the Los Angeles rescue system—many of them too young to survive without intensive care.
CatCafe Lounge created the Kitten Lounge to help address this critical moment—providing a dedicated, high-visibility space where adoptable kittens can be seen, socialized, and placed into homes more quickly.
Originally launched in 2019 as an off-site initiative in Downtown Los Angeles, the program now lives in-house at our Venice Beach location—expanding our ability to support rescue partners and save more lives.
As Los Angeles’s only nonprofit cat cafe, our work is rooted in one goal: increasing adoptions and reducing the number of cats at risk.
And while the impact is serious, the experience is something special—guests have the opportunity to spend time with adoptable kittens in a space designed for connection, comfort, and care.

Why our Kitten Lounge is important to Los Angeles

Kitten Season
From spring to fall tens of thousands of kittens pounce into LA during kitten season and many of them are euthanized due to lack of shelter space and resources. While rescue groups in LA fight to save as many as they can, there is still a bottle neck in the system that hinders saving these kittens. |
|
Here’s the problem
During kitten season, the 8-week-and-under (bottle baby) population faces the highest risk in LA shelters. Rescue groups step in to pull these kittens and nurse them to adoptable age. But once they’re ready for adoption, fosters and rescue groups often lack the visibility and infrastructure to place them quickly. This creates a bottleneck—adoptable kittens remain in foster care, taking up space needed for the next wave of vulnerable kittens. Without a place to quickly move adoptable kittens into homes, fosters remain full—and fewer vulnerable kittens can be saved. Our Kitten Lounge plays a critical role in keeping that cycle moving. |
Here's what we're doing to help save kittens
Once kittens are adoption-ready, they move into the Kitten Lounge—a high-visibility, in-person environment designed to help them connect with potential adopters.
By accelerating adoptions, we free up foster space so rescues can continue taking in the next wave of vulnerable kittens who require immediate, hands-on care.
And while this work plays a critical role in the rescue ecosystem, it also creates something incredibly special:
Guests have the opportunity to spend time surrounded by adoptable kittens—forming real connections that lead to more adoptions and better outcomes for the cats.
It’s a rare chance to be part of something that both feels good and does real good.
